If you are reading the Destiny Grimoire Anthologies to get in-depth lore about the world of Destiny you'll be disappointed。 These books are adding a lot of 'background flavor', but they won't give you the details that I was hoping for。 Lots of scattered bits and pieces, some informative, others just plain confusing。 I should also note that I spent over 1000 hours playing this game。Ranking Vol I, II, and III, I would say: I -> III -> II。 If you are reading the Destiny Grimoire Anthologies to get in-depth lore about the world of Destiny you'll be disappointed。 These books are adding a lot of 'background flavor', but they won't give you the details that I was hoping for。 Lots of scattered bits and pieces, some informative, others just plain confusing。 I should also note that I spent over 1000 hours playing this game。Ranking Vol I, II, and III, I would say: I -> III -> II。 。。。more

Yet more interesting insights into the Destiny universe, accompanied by beautiful, evocative drawings。 Only issue is with several errors, ranging from: spelling, no spacing between words, repeated paragraphs [verbatim] (I'm positive it wasn't artistic in purpose)。 Yet more interesting insights into the Destiny universe, accompanied by beautiful, evocative drawings。 Only issue is with several errors, ranging from: spelling, no spacing between words, repeated paragraphs [verbatim] (I'm positive it wasn't artistic in purpose)。 。。。more

Excellent content as usual, raises as many questions as it answers。 One star docked for the slightly more chaotic layout of the chapters (does not flow as smoothly as the previous editions) and some typos / repeated sections。 Very minor, and not a big deal when considering this released during COVID。

Just as informative as the other Grimoires, but this book looses a star for the amount of typos it it includes。

So, as usual, amazing art and a well-curated collection。 "The Man They Call Cayde" is the strongest bit in this one, but imo it's one of the best-written lorebooks in the game。 You get three stars because I am BEGGING an editor or proof reader to look more closely at these books that Bungie keeps releasing。 I previously bitched about all the things that were off in the cookbook, and I know that errors in copy are basically essential to the Destiny experience at this point, but come on。 I wasn't So, as usual, amazing art and a well-curated collection。 "The Man They Call Cayde" is the strongest bit in this one, but imo it's one of the best-written lorebooks in the game。 You get three stars because I am BEGGING an editor or proof reader to look more closely at these books that Bungie keeps releasing。 I previously bitched about all the things that were off in the cookbook, and I know that errors in copy are basically essential to the Destiny experience at this point, but come on。 I wasn't even reading closely since I've read most of these entries before now, but here are the most egregious ones I spotted: Intro by personal favorite writer of mine, Jonathan To: "Exos, like Cayde-6, are metal women and men。。。" Look, I get what you're going for, but there is no getting around that the arrangement here sounds like you're saying Cayde-6 is a metal woman。 Kinda undermines efforts for more inclusive language when you use them in ways that deliberately makes them sound silly。 P。 7: "'Exo's don't dream,' he said。 But what's dreams。。。 and what's memory?Ah, just fix the gun, Banshee。" The plural of Exo is Exos。 It literally appears that way in the introduction before this page and the entry literally right after it。 Also I don't want to get into it, but the fact that this excerpt is arranged like a haiku but each line goes over by one syllable really grinds my gears because I want to believe that this is done on purpose since it's attributed to Banshee and all, but when you mistake a plural vs。 possessive within the first ten pages, the intentionality of such a thing seems suddenly too sophisticated。 P。 20: Security Log The fact that I utterly detest transcript-style lore entries aside, there are three lines of (REDACTED) character talking in a row。 This doesn't make any sense (each sentence isn't its own line), and I'm thinking the second line should have been attributed to [C。B。] but was blocked out instead。  P。 79: Entry for Z。 SHIRAZI CB-PZ-2。1 appears twice in a row。 Just, duplicated。 On the page twice。 Like an accidental copy/paste that made it all the way to print。 P。 80: Entry for Z。 SHIRAZI CB-PZ-3。2 appears, get this, THREE TIMES in a row。 C'mon, guys。 See above。 P。 85: "He walked out of the facility, a thin, slight shape against the red |light reflecting off the dunes。" Random "|" Thrown in the mix to keep us on our toes。 No doubt some sort of riddle from Savathun。 P。 122–123: Where do I even begin with these two pages。 Every em dash in this entry has a space before and after。 Weird choice, but at least consistent。 This is where the consistencies with dashes begins and ends。 So the first five of the nine RECORDs in this piece are arranged as: "RECORD ###-BRIDGE-##。#" the other four are: "RECORD ### - BRIDGE - ##。#" Just, suddenly spaces。 I personally think the spaces make it easier on the eyes to read, but you can't decide that halfway through the piece and not go back to change the others。 "RECORD 167 - BRIDGE - 5。2" is the normal serif text typeface instead of the sans serif header typeface like the rest of the RECORDs。 RECORD 473 - BRIDGE - 2。1 "Let the Little One guide me through the Fallen as I puzzle out what the Hive want in the bones of this broken Cosmodrome。" vs。 RECORD 473 – BRIDGE - 2。1 "Back to the Temple, again, but this time the Little one knows I'm here。" Came here to complain about lack of consistency in "Little One" vs。 "Little one" but I'm staying to bitch and moan about the sudden appearance of an en dash instead of a hyphen。 And this entry was originally from Grimoire cards released during TTK! You had four! Years! To change this! Why not just do it?! You know where these errors are easier to fix than print? Yeah, E-BOOKS! Please release these volumes digitally so I do not have to squint at this tiny, terrible typeface on what looks like dirty paper! And I'm talking about ACTUAL EBOOK FORMATTING for e-readers, not the "for funsies" PDF "ebook" by the most liberal definition that we got with that one Dawning Triumph。 You have my money! You will continue to get my money! I WANT to keep buying volumes of the most incomprehensible lore to ever exist, where I can look at the first two sentences of an entry and confidently go "yep, this one's a Seth Dickinson joint" because you can spot his writing style from orbit and because I like this world and all the captivating nonsense that is going on in it。 I would like to read all that nonsense on my phone from the comfort of my bed, or on my computer screen where I can admire details of the gorgeous artwork without a huge page split running down the middle。 And while I'm asking, have someone do another proof read on this volume before you release it digitally。 And if I can make another demand, please put a moratorium on transcript-style lore pieces。 Can't wait for Volume IV。 。。。more

Some great individual pieces of writing, without enough context to independently appreciate them。 Most video game tie-ins are self-contained, expressing a game's theme and aesthetics so you can recommend them to a friend who doesn't play。 Volume I was a self-contained story like this, but I wouldn't have been invested in Volume III unless I'd already played the game's Forsaken and Beyond Light expansions and been introduced to the major characters。 What's the Exo Stranger doing here? If you don't already know she's our version of Rachel Grey, these pages are borderline indecipherable。That being said, Rasputin and the Ishtar Collective are still awesome iterations on classic sci-fi concepts, and I never thought I'd get chills from reading about unethical medical research with nanotechnology。 。。。more
